HY.GEN.IC

With all the shit being pumped out these days, it's so refreshing to see something creative done with thought and purpose. That's why it was such a pleasure to sit down with the guys from Hy.Gen.Ic. The interview is just up and you can check it here.

Doing something good and doing it well.

Proud to be part of the (HY.GEN.IC)

Art, Booze, and Beats

Locking the door behind, you feel eyes on your back from the house across the street. Turn and there's no one. Familiar stares through the shutters of a deserted market, behind a diner, in the swirls of a Victorian cornice. Do these imprints of humanity linger in the door frames, within the window panes, or just in your mind. Beside the tracks, the cars squeal to a stop and the doors to slide open. Your heart skips when you see, towards the front of the car, the back of her head. Hair draping over a scarf wrapped tight, you approach the seat beside when she turns and you realize...you are just Strangers on a Train.
In his second solo show at D-Structure, Alec Huxley continues his venture into environments with the lingering touch of people. Ghostly flashes of femme fatale's occupy his new paintings and charcoal eyes hide behind the outlines of San Francisco architecture on wood panels. Affordable prints and limited edition t-shirts on hand as well.

Lower Haight Strret Art on the News

It's nice to live in a neighborhood where the limits of creative expression is a vigorous and equally sided debate. Featured on the local news on Wednesday: including the Lower Haight Mural (and fleeting glimpses of my contribution), D-Structure, and Lower Haighters.

Opposites

The show "Opposites" opened at Wonderland last Wednesday but things have been so busy I'm just now getting around to the pictures. Each artist was asked to do a little wall installation that tied into their work. I opted for the simple route (around a fresh new piece) but some were extremely ornate and I think the variety makes for a pretty compelling show.

It's up for six weeks I believe. (2929 24th Street, SF CA 94110)

Hello, this is FedEx...I've got your skeleton

And rivaling the coolness of animal-head glassware (thanks babe)...

...was this package that came yesterday (thanks M&D).

Look out for this guy in future paintings... for now, he's just watching some baseball.

120 degrees and rising

No better place to go on birthday trip than Death Valley. Ghost towns and abandoned awesomeness, creepy motels, and wide open roads with no cops. A little heat never hurt anyone...?!?!

Mission Adventures

Art everywhere, big ass burritos and the summer heat - great time in the Mission today. And I finally got one of the lucha libre masks that I've been eying every time I go down to 24th street.

UFO's on Haight?

ArtsWest

The reception for Sun in an Empty Room went swimmingly and it'll be up for the rest of the month at ArtsWest in Seattle. Thanks to Nichole for curating and Zach and Barbara for the great photography and pastel work. (pics courtesy Dan Huxley)

Sun in an Empty Room

I'll be up in Seattle this Thursday, June 9th for the artists' reception of Sun in an Empty Room: Ode to Hopper at ArtsWest in West Seattle. If you can't make it, the show will be up all month, and if you just aren't in Seattle you can see the new work online (sometime this week.) Can't wait to swap the San Francisco rain for some Seattle sun!??

My Wonderland

My Wonderland is sex in a foggy carnival. Like clicking through a ViewMaster while riding a roller coaster. Each thought of Wonderland is quickly overtaken by then next. Glances within opulent structures, flying across foreign landscapes. I wanted to create a space filled with fragmented emotions and I wanted it to be a little overwhelming. Euphoric and dizzy. And as a Wonderland is a human construction, I also wanted it to be a little dark and creepy.

Wonderland Anniversary

One year anniversary for Wonderland tonight, 6-10pm down in the Mission. I got a sneak peak of the show yesterday and I'm proud to be one of the sixty artists paying tribute to Irene and her awesome store.

Art, art, then bed

Another weekend packed with art. Chillin' was an experience, almost overwhelming with the amount of art on display and clothing and jewelery designers on hand. Good show all around, I enjoyed it as much as possible on almost no sleep!
