CA 12x12 Opening

This Saturday is the opening of Gauntlet Gallery’s Second Annual CA12X12 Show, featuring a compilation of works from 50 different California artists! This exhibition promises to produce a variety of artistic styles, reflecting each artist's personal creative perspective.

The spirit behind this annual event lies in the belief that artists exist in a world free from rules, restrictions or limitations. As such, each contributing artist was given an identical 12”X12” wood panel and asked to simply create. The artists were not confined by the wooden canvas, nor were they assigned a specific theme or concept. Our goal was to provide an open platform for young and emerging artists, granting them free reign to express themselves.

As a result, the CA12X12 Show will feature works that are representative of the next generation of accomplished artists and visionaries. The show comprises a grand array of styles, and we believe these works will surprise, inspire and encourage viewers to recognize the ability to break free from restrictions and limitations in our everyday lives.

Opens Saturday March 8th 7-10pm
Runs Through March 29th

96 Hours

"Imaginative meeting of space, S.F. architecture, old west in exhibition of paintings"

Extremely late on this too, but I've gotta catch up on stuff sometime. Very nice piece from Stephanie Hession for the S.F. Chronicle that ran the day before the opening. Much love to the blogs but words hold more weight when you can hold the paper they're printed on. Hope that newspapers and magazines don't die!

Read it here.

The framed copy in photo is from the gallery. Mine has a much more ornate, gold frame.

Opening Photos

A little late but here are some pics from the opening of All the Go Inbetweens at 111 Minna. Really awesome night and thanks again to everyone who came out. It's up through this Saturday, April 28th, so only a few days left to check it out.

All The Go Inbetweens

All The Go Inbetweens, my largest solo show yet, opens at 111 Minna gallery in San Francisco tomorrow. It represents the most concentrated effort I have yet to undertake in my career as an artist and I'm exhausted and proud and very excited for people to see everything. There's endless things to debate about with art but I think a main reason for producing it is to make people (and yourself) happy, and I think that's pretty cool. If the subject matter is sad or disturbing I think there's always a positive element if someone can make a connection with it. It's not the art that I'm compelled to create but even with something like a demon raping a teddy bear, you can say "boy I really admire the rendering on that demon penis" and then you're a little bit happier. But I digress.

If you're not able to make it to San Francisco then you can preview the show here (don't click if you're coming to the show or you'll spoil it). I look forward to seeing everybody that comes out tomorrow and I appreciate all the support that's got me to this point.

A little clip from the install here.

La Jungla

Opening for "La Jungla" on Friday at Wonderland SF. Great turnout and it's always nice when people want to take the art home! Very happy that I squeezed in time to do a new piece. It dovetailed nicely with some of the work I'm doing for 111 Minna so it serves as a sneak peek for All the Go Inbetweens, opening April 6th.

Strangers on a Train

Tomorrow December 9th at 8pm

"Strangers on a Train"
opens at

 D-Structure

520 Haight St
San Francisco, CA

Sponsored by Magners
Part of the Lower Haight Holiday Art Walk

Art, Booze, and Beats

Locking the door behind, you feel eyes on your back from the house across the street. Turn and there's no one. Familiar stares through the shutters of a deserted market, behind a diner, in the swirls of a Victorian cornice. Do these imprints of humanity linger in the door frames, within the window panes, or just in your mind. Beside the tracks, the cars squeal to a stop and the doors to slide open. Your heart skips when you see, towards the front of the car, the back of her head. Hair draping over a scarf wrapped tight, you approach the seat beside when she turns and you realize...you are just Strangers on a Train.
In his second solo show at D-Structure, Alec Huxley continues his venture into environments with the lingering touch of people. Ghostly flashes of femme fatale's occupy his new paintings and charcoal eyes hide behind the outlines of San Francisco architecture on wood panels. Affordable prints and limited edition t-shirts on hand as well.

Lower Haight Strret Art on the News

It's nice to live in a neighborhood where the limits of creative expression is a vigorous and equally sided debate. Featured on the local news on Wednesday: including the Lower Haight Mural (and fleeting glimpses of my contribution), D-Structure, and Lower Haighters.

Opposites

The show "Opposites" opened at Wonderland last Wednesday but things have been so busy I'm just now getting around to the pictures. Each artist was asked to do a little wall installation that tied into their work. I opted for the simple route (around a fresh new piece) but some were extremely ornate and I think the variety makes for a pretty compelling show.

It's up for six weeks I believe. (2929 24th Street, SF CA 94110)
